Treatment Centers
Once a drug abuser has decided to seek help and treatment for their substance abuse problems, it comes time to find the right kind of treatment and treatment center. There are several different types of treatment that an abuser can get at treatment centers. The key is finding a center that will fit to the abuser’s personal wants, needs and goals.
Treatment facilities and centers are designed to give the abuser a structured, constant environment where he will get the best care possible to help him overcome his drug problem. Treatment facilities and centers are generally intended for people who have had a long history of intense drug abuse who are committed to changing their lifestyle and find a long-term solution to their drug problem. There are many different types of treatment facilities and centers for a substance abuser to choose from. These centers vary in length, formality, cost and effectiveness and intensity. Choosing the center that is right for you is key to your recovery and success.
There are two main types of programs that treatment facilities and centers generally focus on:
Inpatient Short-Term Rehabilitation and Treatment
Short-term rehabilitation treatment is designed to provide substance abusers with treatment for approximately 30 days. Approaches to treatment during these 30 days may include individual and group counseling and guidance as well as individuals and group therapy. The primary focus of short-term rehabilitation treatment programs are to stabilize the abuser from using drugs, teach abstinence from drug abuse and lastly, making lifestyle changes.
Inpatient Long-Term Rehabilitation and Treatment
Long- term rehabilitation treatment is also known as residential care or therapeutic communities. These types of programs are designed to help people truly make some serious lifestyle changes and to get them off drugs once and for all. These centers are generally conducted in a very structured and intense manner. Abusers will generally be monitored and counseled 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Long term-rehabilitation treatment is generally conducted in a non-clinical setting that may also include additional treatment strategies such as social, educational and psychological. Long-term rehabilitation treatment programs usually last from six months to a year in length.
